Live silver price per gram, 10g, 100g and 1kg — updated from international XAG/USD spot prices. City-wise rates for Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and 15+ cities.
Silver prices in India are determined by the international XAG/USD spot price on COMEX and London Bullion Market, converted to Indian rupees after adding import duty (15%) and GST (3%). The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) in Mumbai is India's primary exchange for silver futures trading and sets the benchmark for physical silver prices across the country.
As of April 2026, silver is trading at approximately ₹95,000-₹1,00,000 per kilogram in India — a dramatic rise from ₹60,000/kg in early 2024. This 50%+ rise has been driven by the same forces pushing gold prices up: US trade war uncertainty, central bank gold buying (which also elevates silver as a related precious metal), and growing industrial demand from the solar energy and EV battery sectors.
The formula for India's silver price:
999 Fine Silver (also called pure silver or three-nines silver) is 99.9% pure. This is the standard for investment-grade silver bars and coins — MMTC-PAMP India silver bars are 999 purity. It is too soft for most jewellery without alloying.
925 Sterling Silver is 92.5% silver mixed with 7.5% copper (or other metals). This is the standard for most silver jewellery in India. The copper adds hardness and durability. Sterling silver jewellery carries a hallmark stamp of "925" or "Sterling".
BIS Hallmarking for Silver: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) introduced mandatory hallmarking for silver jewellery in 2022 for cities with assaying centres. Look for the BIS hallmark triangle with 925 or 999 purity marking when buying silver jewellery.
Silver prices vary slightly across Indian cities due to local taxes, dealer margins and transportation costs. The MCX rate in Mumbai is the benchmark. Other cities add local VAT (in states where applicable), freight charges and dealer commission. Typically the variation is ₹500-2,000 per kg across cities.

The gold-to-silver ratio (gold price ÷ silver price per same weight) is a popular tool for deciding which to buy. Historically the ratio ranged from 30:1 to 80:1. As of April 2026, with gold at ~₹1,60,000/10g and silver at ~₹970/10g, the ratio is approximately 165:1 — historically very high, suggesting silver is undervalued relative to gold.

Unlike gold (which is 90% monetary/jewellery demand), silver has substantial and growing industrial demand that gold doesn't have. This makes silver's price dynamics more complex and potentially more exciting:
This industrial demand means silver prices have a second growth driver beyond investment demand — making some analysts more bullish on silver than gold at current ratios.
3% GST applies on silver jewellery and silver articles. Additionally, a making charge GST of 5% applies on the making/fabrication charges for silver jewellery. When you buy a 100-gram silver article worth ₹9,700, you pay approximately ₹9,700 × 1.03 = ₹9,991 plus applicable making charges.
For investment-grade silver (bars and coins), the GST is 3% with no making charge component. Silver ETFs and digital silver do not attract GST at the point of purchase in the secondary market — only on the initial purchase of physical silver by the fund/platform.
